Vinyl sheet flooring

Our Cheltenham shop offers quotes in vinyl floors as part of the home shopping service.

Sheet vinyl flooring is the most popular kitchen and bathroom floor covering because nothing wears better for the money. Many familiar names such as "Rhinofloor" have all but disappeared from the market, but there are still brands such as Tarkett and Leoline.

As kitchens and bathrooms tend to be narrow in relationship to other rooms, vinyl is almost always made in 2, 3 and 4 metre widths. There are a small number of 5m widths in a limited range.

Floor preparation

Vinyl floorcovering is very hard wearing but it must be laid onto exceptionally smooth floors such as as hardboard, ply wood or screed. This is because it will show up the "slightest" particle of grit, floor board gaps or pits. These tend to wear through the back and break an otherwise perfect protective surface if the floor is not prepared properly. Tony Mustoe's fitters will do this floor preparation work for you which will be offered as part of your quote.

Some vinyls come with a backing that will tolerate minor floor imperfections, meaning you can save on floor preparation costs - ask us to show you samples.

Popular designs for vinyl floors

Designs for sheet vinyl come in granite like speckles, timber planking, ceramic tiles, slate slabs/tiles, stone slabs/tiles and traditional marmoleum "marbled" effects.

Pictured bottom right is a sample of Griptex black vinyl designed to simulate the stud texture of more expensive commercial floors - an excellent choice for black and white rooms as is currently the fashion (at time of writing).
